How to Remove a Fraud Alert from Your
Credit Report on All 3 Bureaus

If you have been a victim of identity theft and are now looking to apply for credit, you will need to remove your fraud alert from the 3 credit bureaus.  This process is very simple, and I have listed the methods that you will need to utilize with each credit bureau in order to lift the alert.

Experian

In order to remove a fraud alert you must submit your request in writing along with copies of documentation verifying your identity.

Experian has placed a form online that includes the information you need to submit and the address to which you should send it in Experian’s Fraud Center. You may also submit your request or documents supporting your claim electronically at experian.com/upload.

For your protection, they require your request be submitted in writing. They take the step of verifying your identity to make sure that an identity thief is not trying to remove the alert to so that they can fraudulently apply for new credit.

Equifax

You can either allow the fraud alert to expire or remove it prior to expiration with a written request.  You can  send your written request to the following address:

For your protection, you'll need to provide copies of certain documentation to verify your identity. Please refer to Acceptable Forms of Identification for Verification  to learn more.

Once they receive your documents and verify your identity, they will remove your fraud alert and notify you by mail within 10 business days.

Transunion

You may remove your fraud alert with Transunion by calling their Fraud Department at (800) 680-7289. They will transfer you to the specialized fraud division and ask you a series of verification questions. 

Once that is complete, they will remove the fraud alert right away.
